Colen and I discussed many times what special people you and Travis both are. I wish he were here so we could discuss Josie's adoption, the new baby on the way, Travis' job, this blog, etc. He would be so proud of his 'Queen Elizabeth', as am I.Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04784534022921080691noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1369867321501732562.post-4011040710286623542011-05-11T18:44:58.739-07:002011-05-11T18:44:58.739-07:00Very nice post Elizabeth! I know my boys wouldn't change their Down syndrome siblings for anything in the world! Learning your sibling perspective is just icing on the cake. I will definitely remember these lessons. My little ones are in a unique position. Caleb and Maggie are twins so they're inexorably linked BUT I try to make sure they're given their own time and space. Thanks again for sharing these wonderful gems. And kudos for sharing the 80's pics. I grew up in the 80's. Oh the horror when you look at pics!Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18229817829124274147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1369867321501732562.post-31215677467456601832011-05-11T09:55:15.457-07:002011-05-11T09:55:15.457-07:00Can I add one more? Beth is 26 and my other daughters are 24 and 20.

There were things that occured when the girls were growing up that I never knew about. There was one year that all three attended the same elementry school. I learned (much later) everything that Sharaya and Diana endured while Beth attended there. In kids choir at church, the director often paired Beth and Sharaya. I never thought anything about it (we always allowed Sharaya her own friends and space, etc.) until much later she mentioned how much she hated it. She would have loved to be paired with one of her friends but was always 'stuck' with Beth. Very normal feelings for ANY sibling! :)

An additional suggestion is to talk to your kids. Talk, talk, talk to them! Too often I waited for them to say something. If something is wrong, they'll tell me, right? :) As the parent, I should have made time to ask them if things were difficult, but I didn't. And I regret that.Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13760897671143549963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1369867321501732562.post-70589035052638622182011-05-11T08:38:24.519-07:002011-05-11T08:38:24.519-07:00Oooooh...so THAT'S what that piece of rubber i...Oooooh...so THAT'S what that piece of rubber is for!
