When You Care Enough to Send the Brutally Honest

If you thought her emails were funny, you should be lucky enough to receive one of her homemade cards.  After discussing Leanne's birthday card to Josie ("Happy Birthday Adopted Down Syndrome Baby!") my mom and I were reminiscing about some of the other greeting card doozies Leanne has created over the years.  You won't find sentiments like this perusing the aisles at your local Hallmark store:

One time my Dad had the stomach flu and Leanne made him a "Get Well" card, complete with a graphic drawing of my Dad vomiting.

My mom got a call at work one day from her cleaning lady.  She had found a card from Leanne that read "Don't clean my room or I kill you."  She wasn't sure how to handle this situation.  You see, Leanne has all of her things in a certain order and she always hated when the cleaning lady would come because things would inevitably end up put back wrong.  Leanne decided a death threat would solve that problem.

When my Grandpa went into the hospital for prostate surgery, Leanne created a custom card that read "Grandpa, feel better.  Bladder.  Pee Problems."  When the nurse complimented Leanne's medical diagnostic skills, Leanne immediately said "I'm looking for a job.  Will you hire me?"  to which the nurse replied "Well, that's not really my decision."  Refusing to take no for an answer, Leanne said "Will you be my reference?"  Priceless!

My mom's most recent birthday card from Leanne had a drawing of a coffin and a grave on it.  While the illustration was certainly a direct reflection of the fact that my sister has my Grandpa's recent death on her mind, it doesn't exactly remind my mom that she's still vibrant and youthful...

So when Hallmark doesn't have just what you're looking for, maybe you could use an Aunt Leanne custom creation.  I think the slogan should be: When you care enough to send the brutally honest.

    1. I think the Death Threat one would sell actually. Two of my teens would buy them --they hate when I clean up their stuff.

  11. I am laughing so hard. I thought each one was priceless until I got to last one Leanne made for mom and I just couldn't stop laughing! Oh my goodness that made my day. You should write a book, I love the voice you use in your blog writing.

One last thing, I saw the recent post of Josie greeting her daddy and that was SO SWEET! Hope your pregnancy is going well and all are healthy. Many good thoughts heading your way!

Okay I lied that wasn't the last thing, I would love to see a guest post or something from your MOM about some things to think about now as our kids are young with their 'adult' years in mind. I know the biggest one is enjoy them now, cause the time flies, but I was wondering since she raised such beautiful amazing daughters, if she had pearls of wisdom to share.

Okay, that's it (for now). :)

  16. I feel so blessed to have found your blog!!!!! I can't stop crying and laughing at the same time. My daughter, is intellectually challenged from a rare syndrome as well and with my upcoming birthday tomorrow she has reminded all week that she can't wait to spend the day with me "Don't worry mom, I'll give you a big hug when you wake up and we can spend the day together... don't be sad just because you're sooooo old." The brutal honesty is hysterical! You cannot get mad because what comes out of their mouths is just the "God's honest Truth" as they see it, not meant to hurt or embarrass!

I am your newest follower and cannot wait to explore your blog further! I would love to have you stop by my little neck of the woods at tiarasandbowties.blogspot.com and my newest neverloseyoursparkle.blogspto.com
